Castro Verde, situated in the Alentejo district of Beja, is not only one of the most important areas of cereal plains in Portugal and Europe, it is also home to many steppe-land birds. Here, in the vast fields of this calm and sleepy region, you will have the opportunity to observe some of the most emblemetic species such as Bustards, Little Bustards, Black-Bellied Sandgrouse, European Roller and Rufus Bush Robins.
Vale do Guadiana is a region characterized by mountains, cork oak groves and streams. Here, some of Europe's most spectacular birds of prey can be appreciated such as the Black Vulture, Griffon vulture, Golden eagle, Spanish Imperial Eagle or Bonelli's Eagle. Specimens of Great Spotted Cuckoos, Blue Rock Thrushes or Crag Martins can also be observed.
As the bright spring colours emerge, so do many other beautiful species. The courtship dances of the Great and Little Bustards begin and fine specimens like the Montagu's Harrier, Lesser Kestrel, Bee Eaters and Tawny Pipit all make an appearance. During the winter colonies of Common Cranes are one of the attractions of this region.
Birdwatching in Castro Verde and Guadiana valley is something truly unique that must be experienced at least once by ant enthusiast. All year round the observation of more than 80 species of birds is possible in groups of 1 to 8 persons accompanied by a guide.
It is very important to us that our activity does not disturb any of the wildlife of their habitats, which is why we have a strong commitment to perform these observations with the least possible ecological impact.
